#BeKind…to yourself!

Now, more than ever, we need to make sure that we are kind to each other and that we can provide support to one another too.

After many years of being asked, I’ve decided to merge my two areas of expertise – Counselling and Course design to create an online course for those of you who want to learn exactly how I do what I do!

The Course is Accredited by The International Association of Therapists who I am very proud to be working with and my course is also now available on Udemy at a heavily discounted price for a few hours only!

Check it out BELOW and, if you’re interested, watch out for a very special treat announcement TOMORROW AT 5PM GMT on my Facebook Page (please like my page if you haven’t already!)

NOT TO BE MISSED!!!!!

All Hail Gen-Covid19

After a long, enforced break, I’m (sort of) trying to get back to my normal job of counselling young adults with very mixed results!

Interestingly enough, said teens and young adults don’t seem at all phased by the Global pandemic much beyond the boring few weeks of lockdown where they were unable to see friends in person, forced to stay at home with equally boring parents with nothing to do except eat, watch TV and enjoy the unseasonably good sunshine! (Bummer!)

In most cases, the 6 month gap felt more like 6 days with most picking up where they left off.

This got me thinking…

Have we created too much support for young adults?

Do they automatically seek out support as an easy option instead of solving the problem?

Are parents who are struggling to cope, expecting schools to pick up the miracle working where they left off?

Furthermore, I like to muse on the theory that this situation will create a league of superheroes the like of which we have not seen for a generation

The Corona-Heroes! The extraordinary young adults who, despite missing 6 months of formal education managed to… dare I say it…not only survive but THRIVE!

No, perish the thought!

Sorry, I’ll be back to doom and gloom normal after a brief look at the News

Counselling Skills Accredited Online Course!

During the past few months we have all been through lots of changes. As a counsellor, I have seen big changes in the way I have had to work.

I have also had lots of enquiries from friends and colleagues who have been thinking about their careers and may want to add another string to their bow.

It is for this reason that I have written a counselling course which can be taught and assessed online!

CHECK IT OUT HERE!!!

Not only that, the course will be accredited by an independent international body that specialises in accrediting holistic courses taught online.

The course, entitled “Acquire Develop and Practice Counselling Skills with a Young Adult Specialism” will be based on the first course I took in Counselling. The NCFE Level 3 Diploma. This course helped me to understand the mechanics and challenges of counselling and helped me fall in love with it.

I have added the Young Adult Specialism as this is the area I have seen the highest demand in. Further specialisms will include Mindfulness, Coaching, Personality Types and more.

There are many counselling courses available online, some better than others! Obviously this one is amazing!

This course is delivered via pre-recorded video with exercises and assignments added in. The course will last for 25 weeks. You will get email support from me and one 40 minute zoom session at a point in the course to suit you!

CHECK IT OUT HERE!!!

If that’s not enough, you will also get access to my online course aimed at Young Adults dealing with Anxiety for free! You can use this as a learning tool, a mentoring tool whatever!

I believe that counselling practice properly starts when you begin to use the skills you have learned. That is why the course involves lots of reflection and practice which you can upload for assessment. I also believe that learning should take place in a safe, non-judgemental and supportive setting, which is why I have decided to restrict each accredited learning qualification group to 15.

I will shortly be releasing dates for the beginning of the first group so if you want to register your interest, please do so here

You may want to register your interest quickly to avoid disappointment!

So if you want to learn a new skill and help yourself and others, please get in touch!

Learn to love Pandemic Life!

As we enter a new age, a new beginning, a new normal; we can’t help but reflect and assess how, not only our lives but our World has changed!

When I did my counselling training many years ago, there were very strict rules around how counselling should be administered, where it should take place etc.

Until even the last few months, in my work in a school as a counsellor, the rules were made for a pre-pandemic World.

Human contact became a bad thing. Separation became the new way of showing love.

Face coverings, until now had been seen as a bad thing and had been discouraged. Now they are compulsory.

In a year which so far has seen a global campaign asking us to #bekind in tandem with a cry to end racist hate crimes, how do we know where we stand?

Our young adults will grow up with a range of words and phrases we only learned in adulthood…

R-number, Covid, Social Distancing, Self-isolating, Lockdown, Zoom, Support Bubbles, Covidiot…and many more

I have adapted my counselling to an online service, which to my surprise has worked really well. We adapt, we move on.

As I prepare for a return to school at the end of the summer, I will be sharing the apprehensions of my co-workers and my students. We are all in this together and together, we will find a way to get through it. In fact, we already are!

I will be endorsing the message to my Young Adults that Covid-19 will be written in the history books along with The Ancient Pyramids, The Plague, World Wars 1 and 2, The Great Fire of London, the list goes on.

And so that makes us all special!

We are all part of the time when a virus brought the Modern World to a halt!

Technology couldn’t help, weapons couldn’t help.

The only thing that helped was being human.

It’s something we can never fully explain to anyone who has not been through it, and when we talk about Lockdown Hair styles and Zoom Quiz Fridays, we will all raise a smile because we will “know”
